    Biography

    Professional Experience

Albert Llosas Barrueco is an associate in the firm's Labor & Employment department. He represents and counsels management in all areas of employment-related litigation, including allegations of discrimination, retaliation, wrongful discharge, whistleblower, breach of contract; wage/hour, common law, civil rights, and restrictive covenants. He practices before state and federal courts as well as before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state and local human rights commissions in Connecticut and New York. Albert also provides advice to employers with respect to a broad range of personnel issues, including hiring, termination, reductions in force, employment discrimination, unlawful harassment, restrictive covenants, wage and hour issues, internal investigations, employee compensation, personnel policies, disability and leaves. Albert has experience handling Section 120 discrimination matters and appeals before the New York Workers' Compensation Board, employment-related disputes filed in Small Claims courts, and defending employers before the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

In addition to his employment litigation experience, Albert has experience assisting management with traditional labor matters, such as union organizing campaigns, secret ballot elections, reconciling collective bargaining agreements requirements with state and federal employment laws, and preparing for discharge arbitrations and other matters. He is often called upon to draft and review personnel policies in English and Spanish on behalf of clients, and he lectures and participates in training seminars on a variety of topics, including diversity, race relations, workplace harassment, compliance with state and federal disability and leave laws, and avoidance of discrimination claims. As a native Spanish speaker, he conducts trainings in Spanish when necessary. He also frequently prepares client alerts and authors articles on employment law issues for the firm's employment blog and legal publications.

Albert graduated with Honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2007. While in law school, he was the managing editor of the Connecticut Public Interest Law Journal and published a Comment titled, "Fast-Tracking United States v. Booker: Why Judges Should Not Fix Fast Track Disparities," 6 CONN. PUB. INT. L.J. 65 (2006). His publication was later cited by the First Circuit Court of Appeals, the Yale Law Journal and the Columbia Journal of Law & Social Problems. During his final year, Albert represented indigent criminal defendants in state court through the law school's criminal clinic and served as legal intern to the Judiciary Committee at the Connecticut General Assembly.

Albert was awarded the 2006 Connecticut Hispanic Bar Association Scholarship Award for outstanding scholastic performance and commitment to the Hispanic community. He received the Alvin Pudlin Memorial First Amendment Award for his work in teaching civil rights to Connecticut inner-city high school students. He was also the recipient of the Law School Dean's Scholarship and was appointed by Governor M. Jodi Rell to the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee in the Spring of 2005. Prior to joining Day Pitney, Albert worked as a legal intern to the state's attorney's office in Meriden, CT, and served as law clerk to the Honorable Michael R. Sheldon of the Connecticut Superior Court.

Albert received his B.A., summa cum laude, in criminal justice from the University of New Haven. He was born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba and immigrated to Connecticut with his family when he was nine years old.

Albert is a frequent blogger on Day Pitney's Employer's Law Blog (www.EmployersLawBlog.com), a weblog that presents the latest news in labor, employment, and employee benefits law.
