Alexa's practice focuses on toxic tort, product liability, and environmental issues. She represents clients in litigation and transactional matters as well as in state and federal compliance issues.
Alexa's toxic tort and product liability experience includes defending clients in lawsuits involving numerous chemicals and asbestos sold or used in manufacturing processes or products. Her ability to effectively analyze both the law and the facts allows her to realize optimal results for clients.
Understanding and leveraging potential environmental liabilities is an important part of Alexa's transactional work. She has protected clients from environmental liabilities in various types of transactions involving a wide range of companies including mining companies, various manufacturers, and real estate investment trusts.
Alexa has experience representing and advising companies in Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, commonly known as Superfund), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Clean Air Act (CAA) disputes and compliance issues. In particular, her substantial experience representing companies in CERCLA litigation has resulted it favorable outcomes for her clients.
Alexa's advanced scientific training gives her the ability to provide clients with both legal and scientific arguments and understanding. In addition to obtaining a Master's degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Science, Alexa has worked at the University of Hawaii in the Oceanography Department researching nutrient fluxes in the Pacific Ocean, and has studied biogeochemistry at the world renowned Marine Biological Laboratories in Woods Hole, MA.
Alexa's Pro Bono work representing the Village of Oak Park has taken her to the United States Supreme Court.
Prior to joining Mayer Brown, Alexa was a Law Clerk for the Honorable Jeffrey B. Ford in the Champaign County Circuit Court. Alexa was a recipient of the Robert E. and Jane C. Ferris Award as well as the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for excellent achievement in the study of the Clean Water Act.
