Alexandra L. Newman is a Litigation & Dispute Resolution associate in Mayer Brown's Chicago office. Her practice focuses primarily on complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts and in private arbitration. She has represented individuals, large companies and accounting firms in a wide range of matters. Recent representative matters include securities litigation, professional liability litigation, insurance coverage disputes, contract disputes, post-business acquisition disputes and employment litigation and counseling.
Alexandra has won top prizes in several major legal-writing competitions sponsored by the American Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. Her articles have appeared in academic and professional journals. Her 2010 article, Manipulation in Political Prediction Markets, was cited approvingly by Northwestern University law professor John O. McGinnis in his book Accelerating Democracy: Transforming Governance through Technology (Princeton University Press, 2013).
Before joining Mayer Brown in 2012, Alexandra served for two years as a Staff Law Clerk (Staff Attorney) for the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. In that capacity she worked closely with every judge on the court to research and draft orders and opinions in a high volume of civil and criminal appeals. She also previously served as a legal extern to the Honorable Nan R. Nolan, Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois.
