Alexandra L. Newman is a Litigation & Dispute Resolution associate in Mayer Brown's Chicago office. She joined the firm in 2012.
Between 2010 and 2012, Alexandra served as a Staff Law Clerk (Staff Attorney) for the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. In that capacity she worked closely with every judge on the court to research and draft orders and opinions in a high volume of appeals involving commercial law, civil procedure, constitutional law, employment discrimination, Social Security benefits, immigration, habeas corpus, prisoners' rights, criminal law and procedure, and sentencing. While in law school she also served as a legal extern to the Honorable Nan R. Nolan, Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois.
Alexandra has won top prizes in several major legal-writing competitions sponsored by the American Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. Her articles have appeared in academic and professional journals. Her 2010 article, Manipulation in Political Prediction Markets, was cited approvingly by Northwestern University law professor John O. McGinnis in his book Accelerating Democracy: Transforming Governance through Technology (Princeton University Press, 2013).
