| Biography | Alice Sacks Johnston serves as national, regional and local counsel to defendants in complex litigation. For example, she is Pennsylvania statewide counsel to major automakers in the defense of their asbestos cases throughout the state. She also frequently defends clients in mass tort proceedings in Philadelphia County, and currently serves as Defense Liaison counsel in the Anti-Convulsant Drug Litigation. In 2005, Alice was selected as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer.
Her experience has encompassed many complex matters, including construction, securities litigation; pharmaceutical and medical device litigation; statewide occupational safety and health (OSHA) cases relating to back injuries among nursing staff; and contract, real estate, products liability and insurance disputes. She also has practiced in the areas of trademark infringement, fraud, Racketeer-Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO), and other areas of business and commercial litigation.
During her career, she has made appearances before state and federal courts, the National Association of Securities Dealers, the American Arbitration Association, and the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
Ms. Johnston is a frequent speaker and has lectured and written on legal topics including discovery of bankruptcy proofs of claim in asbestos litigation, liability for over-promotion of pharmaceutical products, "inadvertent addiction" and obesity litigation, as well as on topics including work-life balance and part-time work options for attorneys.
