About this office:
Our firm has been a legal force in Sydney since 1822, when 22-year old George Allen opened his offices in Hunter Street. Mr. Allen was the first solicitor admitted in New South Wales to have served his articles in Australia.
The firm grew to become Sydney's premier legal firm and, over the years, had a considerable influence on the development of Australia's legal system. Today, Allens Arthur Robinson is involved in most of Australia's landmark deals. For example, we worked on the BHP/Billiton merger, the largest in Australian history.
Our recent experience includes:
- acting for Coopers Brewery in defence of the hostile takeover bid by Lion Nathan.
- advised Hutchison 3G Australia on sale to Telstra of half interest in the radio access network of Australia's only 3G UMTS network.
- advised BHP Billiton on its A$2.3 billion off-market share buy-back, the largest off-market buy-back in Australian history.
- acted for the financiers on the A$3.2 billion refinancing of Sydney Airport. The original A$5.6 billion privatisation of the Airport, on which we also acted for the financiers, remains the largest in Australian history.
- acted on the float of the Macquarie Media Group.
