Amir Katz is an associate in Crowell & Moring's Washington, D.C. office. He is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Group, where he focuses on patent litigation, and the E-Discovery and Information Management Group, where he focuses on discovery issues related to cloud computing.
Amir graduated from Dartmouth College with an A.B. in computer science and received his law degree from George Mason University School of Law, where he was Managing Justice of the Moot Court Board and a winner of the Upper Class Moot Court Competition. While in law school he interned in the Office of Chief Counsel at the United States Mint and the Division of Enforcement at the United States Securities & Exchange Commission.
Prior to law school, Amir spent eight years as a software engineer, designing web software systems for the federal government and the private sector.
Representations
· Certain Communication Equipment, Components Thereof, and Products Containing the Same (337-TA-817). Representing respondent Avaya in an investigation related to Power over Ethernet telephones, switches, and wireless access points. Investigation is pending.
· Certain Automotive GPS Navigation Systems, Components Thereof, And Products Containing Same (337-TA-814). Representing respondent General Motors LLC in an investigation related to automobiles with in-dash GPS navigation systems.
· Represented a client of the firm in its production of electronically-stored information to the government in a regulatory investigation. Counseled the client on a defensible process for using software technology to assist the review of electronically stored information collected from several hundred custodians. Negotiated with the government concerning the preservation, processing, and production of electronically stored information.
· Adjustable-Height Beds and Components Thereof (337-TA-734). Represented complainant Invacare in a Section 337 investigation before the International Trade Commission related to adjustable hospital beds. Successfully obtained Consent Order whereby respondent agreed to the exclusion of accused products from entry into the United States.
· Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems v. Haldex Brake (N.D. Ohio). Represented plaintiff Bendix in patent infringement action involving brake systems.
