Amy Clayton practices in the areas of commercial real estate transactions, commercial finance, commercial leasing, commercial property tax appeals, business formations and general real estate and corporate law, with a special focus on the multi-family housing practice.
Amy represents a wide range of clients including individuals, developers, small businesses, non-profit associations and large corporations. She works with real estate purchasers and sellers in all aspects of real estate transactions, including contract drafting and negotiations, title issues, zoning and other due diligence matters, project development and financing. Amy frequently assists both landlord and tenants with commercial lease negotiation and documentation and advises them on lease dispute issues. She represents regional and national banks and farm credit associations with commercial loan transactions and also has experience in general corporate matters and property tax appeals. She has extensive experience handling sales and development of multi-family housing communities, including low-income housing issues.
Amy received a B.S., summa cum laude, in Biochemistry from Clemson University, where she was the recipient of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina, where she served as Articles Editor of the South Carolina Law Review, was a member of the Order of the Wig and Robe and the Order of the Coif, and was a recipient of CALI Awards in Business Corporations, Criminal Procedure and Evidence.

Outside Nexsen Pruet
Outside of work, Amy’s devotes most of her time to her family. Amy and her husband, David, are parents of one daughter. Together, they enjoy travel, cooking, camping and hiking, bike riding and tennis. Most mornings find Amy enjoying an early run to help get her focused for the day ahead. She loves challenging herself to run faster and farther, just as she loves finding the best solutions for her clients to the challenges she encounters in her practice.
Amy serves on the Board of Directors of Girls on the Run of Columbia, a positive youth development program for elementary and middle school girls, teaching life skills through interactive lessons and running games. Amy’s work with Girls on the Run of Columbia is the perfect combination of her passion for running and desire to serve her community as she helps to promote exercise and healthy lifestyles, along with confidence, community involvement and leadership, in the youth of the Midlands region. Amy also actively participates in Urban Land Institute and serves on several committees within this organization, which unites her practice in the area of commercial real estate with its dedication to smart land use and planning. In addition, Amy serves on the Board of Directors of CREW Midlands, an organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of women in commercial real estate.
