Diversity at Andrews Kurth LLP

Diversity

We believe that the widest possible experience and perspective are essential for great client service -- we value the unique talents of our people. That's why we are committed to workplace diversity and seek different cultural, educational and professional backgrounds among our employees.

Our firm is dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, gender or age.

Andrews Kurth's commitment is supported by recruiting, training, our EEO Policy, and community activities that promote diversity. Our senior management is committed to recognizing the value of diversity as part of the firm's working relationships and decisions.

Lawyer Diversity

We have 45 minority lawyers working in various practice areas, or more than 10% of all our lawyers. During the past three years we named 28 new partners, including four Hispanic males and five women.

Our minority ranks include Hispanic, African-American, American Indian/Alaskan Native and Asian-American partners. Andrews Kurth also has African-American, Hispanic and Asian-American associates. Our ranks also include one Hispanic-American lawyer who is of counsel and one African-American senior lawyer.

Gender Diversity

Overall there are 114 female lawyers at Andrews Kurth (over 28% of all lawyers). These include 30 women partners, 60 associates, 16 senior lawyers, six of counsel and two counsel. Our female lawyers reflect diverse minority representation: one Asian/Pacific Islander partner, 10 Asian/Pacific Islander associates, one Asian/Pacific Islander of counsel, one African-American partner and three African-American associates, one Hispanic partner and one Hispanic senior lawyer.

Of the firm's 298 male lawyers, 25 (or 8%) are minorities. This includes two American Indian/Alaskan Native partners, an Asian/Pacific Islander of counsel and an African-American partner, several African-American associates and one senior lawyer. The firm has several Hispanic partners, one associate, one foreign associate and one of counsel.

Community

Since 1902, Andrews Kurth lawyers and staff have worked to improve the communities where we work. Our firm does not approach community service as a bar association requirement; instead, we actively work to find large and small ways to help organizations and causes that make a difference in people's lives. Typical examples from our Dallas and Houston offices show the kind of community commitment we make wherever our lawyers practice law.

Community Involvement

For the first annual "Back the Blue & Deep Ellum Too Fun Run," held in November 2003 to raise money in support of the Dallas Police Department, its officers and their families, Andrews Kurth provided support through a corporate sponsorship. Our Special Counsel in Dallas also brought together different members of the legal community to encourage donations for the 130 runners participating in the fundraising event.

Our Dallas office supported Freedom Day in September 2003, an effort by the Entrepreneur`s Foundation of North Texas to assist and rebuild Camp Summit, a summer camp for handicapped children. We sponsored the event as a firm and participated as individuals.

We were a lead sponsor and fielded a team of runners for the associated Freedom Run in September 2003. This second annual event, organized by the Dallas Young Lawyers Association, and the Dallas Assist the Officers Foundation, is a tribute to the American Spirit in honor of those affected by the tragedy of September 11, 2001.

In December 2002, to honor our firm's 100th anniversary, Andrews Kurth established an annual corporate donor program to support the work of The 100 Club -- and made a $25,000 donation to begin the program. The 100 Club is a Houston organization founded to financially assist dependants of law enforcement officers and firefighters who lose their lives in the line of duty, and to provide working officers with life-protecting equipment, training and programs.

Our ongoing support of The 100 Club will boost initiatives that would not otherwise be possible, and encourage additional backing by the business community for these efforts. We also recognized the firm's centennial by making significant contributions to support similar charitable organizations in the other cities where we have offices.
