Anthony C. Hevia is an associate in Wicker Smith's Miami office, handling general civil litigation matters. Before joining the firm in 2010, Mr. Hevia worked for three years as an Assistant State Attorney at the State Attorney's Office for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. During his tenure, he handled 56 criminal trials, including 29 jury trials to verdict and 17 jury selections as First Chair. He gained extensive experience in motion practice, trial strategy and witness preparation, jury selection, opening and closing statements, and depositions. He was also selected to supervise peers and train new attorneys. In addition to his work with the State Attorney, Mr. Hevia managed a small civil law practice, focusing on transactional work for clients in business, estate, and tax law.
While maintaining a full-time position as a District Café Field Training Manager at Barnes & Noble, Inc., Mr. Hevia graduated in 2007 from the Florida International University College of Law Evening Program. He excelled as a law student, achieving Dean's list for four semesters and competing nationally for both the FIU College of Law Trial Team and Moot Court. In 2007, he was awarded the Ted Klein Scholarship for Oral Advocacy and the FIU College of Law Trial Advocacy Award for the Class of 2007. Concurrently, during his six year tenure with Barnes & Noble, he opened three new locations, including a store that was rebuilt in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina; he ran three separate cafés in Miami-Dade County, including the third highest volume store out of 120 in the region; and he managed an operation that grossed more than one-million dollars a year with an average of 24 employees.
In 2003, Mr. Hevia graduated cum laude from Rollins College with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. He was an Alonzo Rollins Academic Scholarship recipient and a three year letterman on the Rollins College Varsity Soccer Team.
Admitted to practice in Florida and the District of Columbia, Mr. Hevia is a member of the Florida Bar, Dade County Bar Association and serves as a mentor for the Cuban American Bar Association.
