| Biography | Arthur K. Shaffer was born in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1993 with a major in Physics. After conducting research in the area of solid state physics, he worked as a controls engineer. Using electrical and computer engineering principles, he then developed control systems for use in the largest and most demanding projects around the world, including the new Hong Kong Airport. After achieving success as an engineer, Mr. Shaffer received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Missouri at Kansas City with an emphasis in the areas of litigation and international intellectual property. As a juris doctor candidate, Mr. Shaffer received awards as a participant of the Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition and American Bar Association Regional Trial Advocacy Competition along with an award for being an editor of an ABA law school publication. Since graduating from law school, Mr. Shaffer has utilized his legal skills as an attorney in roles within the government, a Fortune 500 company and various small businesses. Specifically, he has practiced Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law — first with another smaller IP firm and since 2003 in his own firm, Intellectual Property Center, LLC, where he is the principal shareholder. As an attorney, Mr. Shaffer frequently speaks to local and national audiences in the areas of intellectual property. Today, Mr. Shaffer serves entrepreneurs and businesses by helping them protect and promote copyrights, trademarks and patents.
