Arthur is a partner in the Providence and Newport offices and practices in estate planning and administration and real estate law. He has had extensive experience in these disciplines as well as in the general practice of law.
Arthur also serves as counsel to several small corporations. He has acted as counsel to several boatbuilding companies and other marine related industries. In addition, he has been involved with several large commercial real estate transactions in Newport County. He is general counsel to a non-profit foundation that restores and maintains many of Newport's 18th Century houses and to private schools.
Since joining the Firm, Arthur's primary focus has been estate planning and administration. He has participated in estate planning seminars and in the administration of sizable estates. He has practiced before all of the probate courts in Newport County and participated in probate litigation in the Superior Court and the Supreme Court.
Notable Experience
· Arthur serves as general counsel for the Newport Restoration Foundation, founded by Doris Duke. The foundation owns and maintains approximately 86 colonial properties restored by Ms. Duke.
· Arthur was involved in the sale of Doubletree Hotel on Goat Island. It was, at the time, the largest commercial transaction in Newport County, Rhode Island.
· Arthur serves as General Counsel for St. George's School in Newport.
· He is also Local Counsel for Lasalle Hotels. He assisted them in the purchase of the Newport Hotel Viking.

· Arthur recently presented an Aquidneck Island Land Trust Seminar on Conservation Easements.
Before Edwards Wildman
After law school, Arthur served as a lieutenant in the Navy from 1962-1965. Following his term in the military, he commenced practice in Newport and joined Edwards & Angell in 1987.

Arthur is extensively involved in community affairs in Newport County and is an avid golfer and fly fisherman.
