Axel Clerens' legal practice focuses on intellectual property, media, e-commerce, betting and gambling, unfair competition and general commercial law.
Prior to joining Crowell & Moring as an associate in 2009, Axel worked for four years in the intellectual property department of another international firm, where he mainly focused on trademark and unfair competition litigation. He has worked for major players on the cosmetics, luxury and fast-moving consumer goods market as well as in the automotive industry.
He has extensive knowledge on the subject of online infringement of intellectual property rights as well as on the various technology and e-commerce aspects of trademark, copyright and general commercial litigation. He also has in-depth knowledge of the Belgian regulatory framework and European case law with regard to off- and online betting and gambling. Axel litigates and advises in both criminal and civil/commercial matters related to the gambling and betting industry, as well as in all Intellectual Property, e-commerce and commercial law matters.
Furthermore, he has regularly assisted clients on the intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions in the media, technology and consumer goods sector.
Axel advises clients on regulatory and advertising queries with regard to medicines and medical devices and litigates patents before the Belgian courts in a variety of areas, including pharmaceuticals, industrial production processes and products and consumer goods.
Axel is fluent in Dutch, French and English and has basic notions of German and Spanish.
