Bán, S. Szabó & Partners was the successor to the practice of the Budapest office of the leading international firm of Shearman & Sterling, formally established in 1991. Later the firm was in cooperation with Altheimer & Gray, a Chicago-based international law firm with a leading practice in Central and Eastern Europe and offices in London, Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava, Kyiv, Bucharest, Istanbul and Shanghai. Since 2004, Bán, S. Szabó & Partners operates in cooperation with Gleiss Lutz, a leading German based international law firm. Founded in 1949, Gleiss Lutz is a premier, full-service law firm, employing over 240 lawyers in offices in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Brussels, Prague and Warsaw. Gleiss Lutz is a member of a strategic alliance with the UK law firm Herbert Smith and the Dutch/Belgian law firm Stibbe, giving it access to an additional 1,500 lawyers and geographical reach of offices in London, Paris, Moscow, Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo, Amsterdam and New York, in addition to its own offices mentioned above. The Firm's practice encompasses complex investment transactions as well as general Hungarian corporate practice. Members of the firm were involved in the privatization of several banks, the national oil and gas company, the largest gas distributor and companies in various fields including pharmaceuticals, tobacco, food processing, telecommunications, broadcasting and paper manufacturing. The general corporate clients of the firm include the Hungarian affiliates of some of the largest multinational corporations as well as several top Hungarian business and government organizations. The firm has three partners and cooperates with 9 associated lawyers.
