Barbara Anne Magel is a partner in the Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP and a member of the firm's Environmental Law Department.
Ms. Magel counsels corporate, municipal and individual clients on a variety of environmental matters, including those with transaction questions, company acquisitions and multi-site real estate matters, governmental enforcement and overall compliance questions. Her experience includes administrative and judicial actions, air, water and hazardous waste permitting, siting, Steering Committee chairmanships, counseling clients on due diligence, hazardous waste, air, wetland, water, sustainability and green lease issues.
Throughout the course of her legal career, Ms. Magel has worked with and familiarized herself with various federal and state environmental laws and regulations, including the Illinois Environmental Protection Act; the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act; the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act; the Clean Water and Clean Air Act; the Toxic Substances Control Act; the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Act; Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act; and the Safe Drinking Water Act.
Ms. Magel's prior experience includes serving as Acting Deputy Regional Counsel of the United States Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 in Chicago, Ill. There, she was awarded the Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals for meritorious service. She is licensed to practice in the state of Illinois.
Ms. Magel earned her B.A. magna cum laude from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., and her J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
