Barb practices in the areas of healthcare and administrative law, with emphasis in regulatory matters and fraud and abuse. She represents acute and post-acute providers such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health, hospice and assisted living facilities in all aspects of regulatory issues. Barb has represented healthcare providers in actions to terminate participation in Medicare and Medicaid and/or a provider's license. She has successfully tried cases before HHS' Departmental Appeals Board/Civil Remedies Division contesting the imposition of sanctions and civil money penalties. Barb has successfully represented clients responding to Department of Justice and Office of the Inspector General subpoenas relating to Medicare billing and quality of care issues.
Barb has successfully represented clients in reimbursement appeals in both federal and state venues.
In addition, she has extensive experience representing numerous professionally licensed individuals such as physicians, dentists, pharmacists and nurses before their respective licensing boards. Barb has represented associations of healthcare professionals in broad policy matters.
In 2010, Barb was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Health Lawyers Association after completing her third year as the chair of AHLA's Long Term Care, Senior Housing, In-Home Care and Rehabilitation Practice Group. She served as AHLA's task force co-chair on A Legal Guide to Life Limiting Conditions and chair on Considerations for Persons With Disabilities and Their Families.
Barb has more than 12 years of experience as a registered nurse. She is a frequent presenter nationally and regionally on issues related to healthcare.
