Practice/Industry Group Overview

The Barnes & Thornburg LLP Appellate Practice Group with more than 70 members - one of the largest and most experienced among U.S. law firms - represents a wide variety of clients in the course of a broad range of appeals. While this group has a strong presence in the Indiana and Illinois appellate courts as well as the 7th Circuit and Federal Court of Appeals, the group's work extends to a significant number of state appellate courts and federal circuit courts and the United States Supreme Court.

The Appellate Practice Group consists of experienced appellate practitioners with diverse backgrounds who share a common interest in and commitment to appellate excellence. The group includes partners who devote a majority of their work to appellate practice, and a considerable number of its members are former judicial law clerks who served judges in courts ranging from the United States Supreme Court and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, to the Indiana Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, among others.

The Appellate Practice Group capitalizes on the firm's diversity in practice and experience. The group routinely consults and includes Barnes & Thornburg LLP attorneys with expertise in the substantive law at issue on appeal. Clients receive benefit from the experience of not only the members of the group, but also across the firm's offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Minneapolis, Ohio and Washington, D.C.

The Appellate Practice Group enjoys a sophisticated and challenging practice whose scope encompasses nearly all the departments and practice groups at Barnes & Thornburg LLP including litigation, business, technology, finance, insolvency and restructuring, utilities, taxation, health care, intellectual property, construction, environmental, labor, transportation, and white collar crime. The group meets regularly to share strategies, recount experiences, and discuss and analyze current developments in federal, Indiana, and Illinois appellate practice.
