Barry Alan Johnsrud is a Shareholder in the Seattle, Washington office of Jackson Lewis P.C.
For 18 years he has represented employers in every kind of employment dispute and litigation. Mr. Johnsrud has handled numerous disputes regarding the scope and enforceability of non-competition agreements in various settings. Mr. Johnsrud devotes the vast majority of his practice to dispute resolution, ranging from complex attorney demands to class action litigation. Mr. Johnsrud relishes the opportunity to represent clients at trial, when that is the client's goal for a dispute, or when it becomes necessary because a dispute cannot be resolved in a manner acceptable to the client.
Mr. Johnsrud's representation of employers has involved the full range of disputes, from demands to jury trials, and has covered nearly every substantive area of employment law. His recent successes include a successful trial, a variety of summary judgments, and an injunction preventing competition for two years by two employees who had not signed a non-compete agreement. Mr. Johnsrud has successfully convinced opposing lawyers to drop cases wrongfully brought against clients of the firm without motion. Mr. Johnsrud lead a team that obtained the dismissal of an FLSA collective action for plaintiff's failure to observe procedural requirements of the FLSA. Mr. Johnsrud has obtained sanctions of over $17, 000 against a plaintiff for refusing to proceed to trial on the date set by the court. The Court of Appeals affirmed that order. Mr. Johnsrud has tried several cases since joining Jackson Lewis ten years ago, and before.
Mr. Johnsrud is an active member and contributor to the King County Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section. Mr. Johnsrud was a contributor to Litigating the Sexual Harassment Case, Second Edition (ABA Tort & Insurance Practice Section, 2000).
Mr. Johnsrud is a member of the Washington and Oregon Bars and is admitted to practice before all courts in these states for over 17 years. He is also admitted to practice before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Supreme Court and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington. He is also a member of the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section.
Mr. Johnsrud received his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, magna cum laude from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN in 1989. In 1992, Mr. Johnsrud received his Juris Doctor from the University of Oregon School of Law, where he received three American Jurisprudence awards, including Civil Procedure and Contracts. Upon graduation, the faculty elected Mr. Johnsrud to the Order of the Coif.
