Biography

Barry Ivan Slotnick is a shareholder in the New York office of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC, where he focuses his practice on civil and white-collar litigation. He is chair of the firm's New York Litigation Section.

Before joining Buchanan, Barry was a founding partner with a leading boutique litigation firm in New York. He recently represented Jay J. Ferriola, a former Army Reservist who successfully sued the government to block his deployment to Iraq.

Several other significant matters have included: People v. Bernhard Goetz, Anthony Quinn matrimonial matters and Gumbel v. Gumbel.

Barry's practice includes commercial litigation, civil litigation, defense of disciplinary proceedings, high net-worth matrimonial matters and white collar defense.

He received the Best Performance award from The American Lawyer and an AMMY Award as among the Best Criminal Lawyers in the United States. He received the New York State Bar Association Award for Outstanding Practitioner in 1988. In 2006, he was honored by his peers and selected to the New York Super Lawyer® list. In addition, in 2009 Barry was selected to the selected to the Corporate Counsel Super Lawyers® list.

Barry is an instructor for the Practicing Law Institute, teaching trial practice to young attorneys. He also serves as an instructor of CLE courses, including "American Democracy in Times of War" at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and "Federal Sentencing Guidelines" at the Chabad Lubavitch of Midtown Manhattan. He was a featured speaker during the Hauser Global Law School's 2005 Vanderbilt Speaker Series and offers legal commentary for Court TV, Fox Network and public commentary programs.

He is a past executive secretary and consultant for the Bar Association of Puerto Rico.

He is fluent in Hebrew.
