Biography

Benjamin A. Pecar is a partner in the Indianapolis, Indiana office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. He is a member of the firm's Real Estate and Corporate Departments and the Financial Institutions Practice Group. He concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate law, corporate law, and corporate and real estate finance. Mr. Pecar counsels real estate developers in connection with the acquisition, financing, construction, leasing and/or sale of their projects. This work includes structuring the transactions, negotiation of numerous joint ventures and otherwise finding practical solutions to clients problems. Mr. Pecar has been representing developers of office, retail, hotel and other real estate projects for nearly 25 years. Mr. Pecar was selected to Best Lawyers in America® 2011 for his real estate expertise.

He also counsels numerous privately held companies in connection with the acquisition and/or sale of their businesses, succession planning, equity and debt financing, leveraged buyouts, and other general corporate matters. Additionally, he has represented numerous banks and financial institutions in connection with many types of financing transactions, including secured and unsecured loans, asset based loans, and project finance transactions. Mr. Pecar has worked with numerous utility and utility related companies.

Mr. Pecar graduated from Northwestern University in 1984 with a B.A. in political science and received his J.D. magna cum laude from Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington in 1987. He is admitted to practice law in Indiana and the United States District Courts for Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. Mr. Pecar has been involved with numerous civic and charitable organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Wishard Foundation, Phoenix Theatre and on the Board of Governors of the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
