Benton S. Duffett, Jr. focuses his practice on patent matters with emphasis on technology relating to the chemical and biological sciences, including organic and inorganic chemistry, synthetic polymer technology, synthetic fiber technology, plant protection pursuant to the Plant Patent Act (35 U.S.C. § 161 to 164) and 35 U.S.C. § 101 and hybridization processes involving agricultural crops. Ben has experience in patent application preparation and prosecution, as well as counseling clients in the United States and abroad with respect to intellectual property matters. He has assisted applicants in securing more than 900 of the 19,000+ traditional plant patents that have been granted since 1930. Ben was a partner with Burns, Doane, Swecker & Mathis, one of the oldest and largest law firms in the United States focusing exclusively on intellectual property, until its lawyers and other professionals joined Buchanan in 2005.
