Bertha Ordaz-Aviles focuses her practice on transactional matters in the telecommunications and satellite sectors as well as other regulated industries. She is experienced in the planning, negotiating, and implementation of a wide range of transactions, including M&A, joint ventures, corporate and financial restructuring, satellite procurement, and contracts. Bertha also has experience representing foreign companies in projects concerning regulatory aspects of broadcasting and pay TV services.
Bertha provides legal advice on general antitrust/competition matters, representing clients in merger clearance procedures, as well as in investigations and other procedures before the Mexican Federal Economic Competition Commission. In addition, she has experience in leading and implementing compliance projects in areas such as anticorruption and antitrust/competition.
Bertha's experience prior to joining Jones Day in 2015 includes, among others, representing Satmex in the sale of 100 percent of its capital stock to the largest French satellite operator in a transaction valued at more than $800 million; Central America's leading airline group in the acquisition of a Mexican cargo airline; Satmex/Eutelsat in the sale of its major subsidiary featuring satellite broadband internet services; and the leading Spanish mobile services provider in the $1.969 billion acquisition of a nationwide mobile services provider in Mexico and in the $1.36 billion acquisition of four cellular companies in northern Mexico, including all subsidiaries in both transactions.
Bertha has spoken extensively on Mexican telecommunications, satellite regulation, economic competition, and anticorruption to governmental agencies, industry organizations, and universities. She is a board member of Special Olympics Mexico and a member of Asociacion Nacional de Abogados de Empresa, the International Bar Association, and Abogadas MX.
