Beverly M. Bunting is Of Counsel practicing in Butzel Long's Bloomfield Hills office. She is a graduate of the Detroit College of Law (J.D., cum laude, 1985), Wayne State University (M.S., Mechanical Engineering, 1981) and Michigan State University (B.S., Systems Engineering with a minor in Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering, 1978). Ms. Bunting concentrates her practice in the area of intellectual property law, with a special emphasis on domestic and foreign patent prosecution. Her practice encompasses a wide range of technologies, and she has a solid engineering background, including expertise in automotive design, packaging and medical devices.
Ms. Bunting is listed in DBusiness Top Lawyers in Metro Detroit for Intellectual Property Law.
Prior to joining Butzel Long, Ms. Bunting practiced with an intellectual property boutique firm, where she strategically managed intellectual property portfolios for corporate and individual clients, including developing intellectual property assets, patent drafting, filing and prosecution in mechanical, electrical, computer, biomedical and business method technologies in USPTO, PCT, and foreign countries, including reexamination and appeals processes. Her experience also includes preparation of patent opinions and freedom to practice analysis, license and non-disclosure agreements, and preparation and prosecution of trademarks and copyrights.
Ms. Bunting's extensive automotive background includes working with Chrysler Corporation as staff attorney, vehicle emissions and fuel economy regulatory specialist, and product design and development engineer for engines and engine controls. She served as an expert witness for Chrysler in the area of throttle and speed controls.
Ms. Bunting is admitted to practice before the State Courts of Michigan, the United States Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She is a member of the Michigan Patent Law Association and former officer of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
