Bill Hanigan is a shareholder of the Davis Brown Law Firm in the business division. He has a general practice in but not limited to the areas of business organizations and transactions, agribusiness, debt restructuring, corporate reorganization, finance, and securities. Bill leads the renewable energy team, and currently acts as general counsel to ethanol manufacturing companies with over 370 million gallons per year of corn ethanol production.
Bill represents clients in Iowa and across the Midwest in renewable fuels, ethanol, wind energy, biodiesel, bio-gas, and related emerging technologies. He advises clients about business development, financing, regulation, and reporting issues related to the industry.
In addition, Bill has effectively negotiated and assisted the negotiation of numerous financing, construction, labor, management, marketing, and other commercial contracts to ensure the organizations meet their short and long-term financial targets.
As part of his extensive range of legal experience, Bill has closed financing transactions with the banks that have financed the majority of corn ethanol and biodiesel facilities in operation in the U.S.
Bill is a frequent writer and speaker at various industry events including, most recently, the Iowa Land Investment Expo, the state's premier forum for businesses and individuals with an interest in farmland, investment real estate, commodities, economics and rural development.
Bill previously practiced public accounting and was tax counsel to U.S. Senator Charles Grassley where he assisted the Senator in his role as a member of the Finance Committee.
