About this office: We are Cochise County's only AV rated law firm by Martindale-Hubbell, the oldest peer review rating service in the legal profession. The Firm has grown to become one of Southeastern Arizona's preeminent law firms. We concentrate our practice on representing the people. We do not represent insurance companies or large corporations against the little guy. The Firm has four members and employs associate attorneys, paralegals and legal staff so that each case gets the utmost preparation and personal attention our clients and their families deserve. Joel Borowiec and William Borowiec, brothers, founded the firm in 1997 as Borowiec & Borowiec. Both Joel and Bill grew up in Bisbee, Arizona watching their father, Matthew Borowiec, practice law and then preside as a Superior Court Judge. After graduating law school, each brother went his own way to practice law. After years of working as in-house counsel for a large insurance carrier and both working for larger law firms, Joel and Bill decided to return to Cochise County and start a law practice that allowed them to focus on their clients and their client's stories. To that end, the founding brothers decided to concentrate their legal practice and attention on cases for which they had experience and expertise. Through its evolution, the firm has maintained that philosophy and our attorneys limit their practice to areas in which they are best suited to accomplish our goals of excellent performance, integrity and the delivery of personal service. Anne M. Borowiec joined the family practice in 1999. Anne is experienced and trained in a broad spectrum of child and family issues. Prior to attending California Western School of Law, in San Diego, Anne graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor of science in Child Development and Family Relations. She worked with Child and Family Resources in Tucson from 1992 to 1997. There, she was the Coordinator for the Child Care Resource and Referral Program and provided in-home visitation and support services for families at risk of child abuse through the Choices for Families Program. While in law school, she worked in an inter-disciplinary child abuse and neglect program comprised of social workers, psychiatrists and law students. She was an Honors Legal Writing Instructor, a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and the secretary of the Public Interest Law Foundation. Anne is an active member of our community and serves on the board of directors for the University South Foundation, Inc. at the University of Arizona. Matthew W. Borowiec joined the firm in 2000 after retiring from the Cochise County Superior Court bench. Matt practiced law with the firm of Gentry, McNulty, Toci & Borowiec (and predecessor and successor firms) in Bisbee, Arizona from 1962 to 1978. He served as a Superior Court Judge from 1979 to 2000. For 16 of those years he was the presiding judge. On many occasions he has sat as a judge on the Arizona Court of Appeals. Upon retirement from the bench he was awarded Arizona Supreme Court's Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Achievement in Improving Public Trust and Confidence in Arizona's court system. D. Christopher Russell joined the firm in 2003. Chris worked in his family's law practice, Russell Law Offices, P.C. in Spokane, Washington from 1986 to 1997. After graduating from Gonzaga University School of Law, Chris focused his practice on plaintiff's personal injury, business litigation and estate planning. Chris was a reserve officer in the U.S. Army Armor Corp from 1990 to 1997. He accessed into the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps and served on active duty as a Judge Advocate from 1997 to 2003. Chris has worked as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney litigating a broad range of criminal charges. From 1999 to 2000, Chris was appointed as a JAGC Ambassador, Special Counsel Liaison, U.S. Embassy, Seoul, Republic of Korea Criminal Courts, where he acted as a legal liaison for U.S. citizens being prosecuted abroad. In 2003, he left active duty as the Chief of Justice, Fort Huachuca, to join the firm. He currently serves as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. Chris serves as an officer of the Sierra Vista Bar Association, is an honorary member of the U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Division, an honorary member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #28, and serves as a director for other local boards.
