Practice/Industry Group Overview

In 1994, Bracewell & Giuliani established a presence in the Republic of Kazakhstan. We played an early, leading role in helping that country create and expand its banking infrastructure, securities markets and commercial legal and court systems. Our attorneys worked with other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) members in similar capacity. Since then, we have used our global experience to help clients from around the world capture significant opportunities in the Caspian region.

Today, we continue to advise the Government of Kazakhstan on the evolution of its business and legal infrastructure. We also help major international companies and banks in Kazakhstan with their financing, transactional, operational, tax and dispute-resolution needs. Our work is concentrated in the areas of capital markets, financing, oil and gas exploration and development, and energy and infrastructure finance. We also represent clients in dispute resolution in local courts, tax planning and litigation, corporate law, and securities and other financial transactions. Unique among the major CIS-area law firms, Bracewell has worked from the start to shape the region’s transition from managed economies to free markets.
