Brett H. Ludwig is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP, where he is vice chair of the firm's Insurance and Reinsurance Litigation Practice. He is also a member of the General Commercial Litigation Practice and the Insurance Industry Team. Before joining Foley, Mr. Ludwig was a law clerk to the Hon. George G. Fagg, Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. In addition to general commercial litigation work, Mr. Ludwig's practice includes a focus on reinsurance counseling and dispute resolution. He has represented both ceding companies and reinsurers in disputes over reinsurance receivables. He has also handled litigation relating to petitions to compel arbitration and petitions to confirm arbitration awards under the Federal Arbitration Act. Mr. Ludwig has a substantial practice in general insurance matters. He has represented insurers in federal and state courts in California, Florida, New York, Wisconsin, and other jurisdictions. Mr. Ludwig received his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota in 1994. Mr. Ludwig served as a managing editor of the Minnesota Law Review and was elected to the Order of Coif. He received his bachelor's degree, with highest honors, from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point in 1991. He is currently admitted to practice in the state courts of Wisconsin, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, and the United States Courts of Appeal for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits. Mr. Ludwig was named to the 2006, 2007 and 2008 lists of Wisconsin Super Lawyers - Rising Stars® for his business litigation work. Mr. Ludwig is a frequent author and speaker on reinsurance issues.
