Brian Burget is a trial lawyer whose practice encompasses a broad range of business and commercial litigation before state and federal courts. He has litigated a wide variety of cases involving business and banking disputes, employment law, personal injury and products liability defense, and matters related to the healthcare industry.
In addition, he works with the firm's Agriculture and Equine Industry Group and is actively involved in legal matters affecting the industry, including landowner rights, mineral disputes, business contracts and equine ownership rights. Since joining McAfee & Taft in 2010, he has represented a number of private and commercial landowners, agricultural producers and livestock corporations.
Brian earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Oklahoma. While in law school, he served as business development editor for the American Indian Law Review, secretary for the Student Bar Association and as a member of the law school's Board of Governors. He also authored "Bittle v. Bahe: A Drunken Mistake," 34 American Indian Law Review 123 (2010) and was a quarterfinalist at the National Health Law Moot Court Competition held annually in Illinois.
Representative Experience
· Representation of national scaffolding and asbestos company in the lawsuit alleging negligent construction and maintenance of scaffolding. After establishing the scaffold was built in accordance with industry customs and practice, the case settled.
· Representation of trustees against charges of breach of fiduciary duties and intentional interference with prospective economic relations. Obtained summary judgment on all of plaintiff's claims.
· Representation of oil and gas joint venture participants against a joint venture manager for securities violations resulting in settlement for the client in the amount of $186,433.
· Representation of landlord in a commercial lease dispute. Obtained settlement for client in the amount of $126,000 after court found tenants affirmative defenses invalid.
