Brian Pel is a tax partner in the Toronto office. His practice is limited to commodity and non-income taxes and levies, including goods and services tax, provincial sales tax, motive fuel taxes, carbon taxes, excise taxes, excise duty, tobacco tax and land transfer tax. Mr. Pel has also advised on numerous e-commerce, outsourcing and internet-related taxation issues and takes an active interest in technology matters. He has appeared for clients on tax matters in the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and in the Federal Court of Canada.
Mr. Pel holds graduate degrees from the University of Toronto and the London School of Economics. He received his LLB from McGill University and was called to the Ontario bar in 1987.
Mr. Pel is a founding member of the Editorial Board of the CCH Canadian GST and Commodity Tax Reporter and frequently contributes commentary to that publication. He was a co-recipient of the CICA Commodity Tax Symposium's Normand Guérin Award in 2002. He has previously been recognized by LEXPERT as a leading practitioner in his field.
