Biography

Brian D. Balonick concentrates his practice in representing management in many aspects of labor and employment law including union organizing campaigns, strikes, unfair labor practice charges and labor arbitrations. Brian also represents employers in employment discrimination litigation arising under Title VII and state civil rights laws.

Brian regularly advises clients in preventive strategies to ensure compliance with labor, employment and wage and hour laws. In this capacity, he counsels clients to ensure that they maintain an issue-free workplace. He also has experience in conducting on-site training seminars for clients on issues such as effective employee relations, equal employment opportunity and other workplace legal issues.

Brian represented employers in the following recent labor matters:

· Represented an international manufacturing company during a union-organizing campaign by successfully arguing to the National Labor Relations Board that the petitioned for unit of employees was not appropriate.

· Represented a national pharmaceutical distribution company during a major organization attempt.

· Defended a national corporation from an unfair labor practice charge involving employee discipline.

· Represented a local concert venue during labor negotiations.

· Successfully enjoined a major strike for a national manufacturing company.

Brian regularly defends employers in employment discrimination lawsuits and in charges brought before administrative agencies, as well as litigation involving employee benefits.

Brian was a coordinator for the 2007 Summer Associate Program at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, which was ranked by the American Lawyer as number one in Pittsburgh and number 3 in the nation. Brian was recognized in Philadelphia Magazine as a member of the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® Rising Star list in 2007 and 2008.

Brian also actively participates in a pro bono project at the McKees Rocks Legal Clinic. In this capacity, he provides legal assistance to low-income individuals. He also serves as a coach of the Gateway Senior High School Mock Trial Team, which participates in the Allegheny County Bar Association Mock Trial Competition. Brian is a board member of Healthy Teens, Inc., a non-profit organization which operates a teen center in Monroeville.
