The firm was founded in 1942 by William M. McAllister, who later served as State Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court. The firm derives its name from Carl M. Brophy who retired in 2003 after 53 years of practice with the firm. Mr. Brophy received the Oregon State Bar Association's highest honor, the Award of Merit, in 1999.
