Bryan G. Tabler, of counsel in Barnes & Thornburg's Indianapolis, Indiana office, returned to the firm in 2001 to resume his practice in the Environmental Department. He first joined Barnes & Thornburg as an associate in 1972, and became a partner and chair of the Environmental Department. In 1994 he left the firm to serve as vice president, secretary and general counsel of IPALCO Enterprises, Inc., as well as senior vice president, secretary and general counsel of Indianapolis Power & Light Company. His responsibilities included, among others, supervising the legal department of nine lawyers and managing the Environmental Affairs Group.
In his environmental practice, Mr. Tabler has counseled steel, chemical, utilities, printing, manufacturing, recycling, and processing companies on a wide variety of environmental matters. He has litigated environmental cases at all levels of the state and federal administrative and judicial systems. He has also written numerous articles on topics ranging from water quality standards to legal concerns surrounding the sale and purchase of asbestos-containing buildings to risk management in Superfund litigation.
Mr. Tabler is former chairman of the Indiana State Bar Association's Corporate Counsel Section and the Environmental Law Division, Natural Resources Section, and he has served as chairman of several of the American Bar Association's committees and subcommittees, including the Environmental Controls Committee, Business Law Section. He is a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana State, and American Bar Associations and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, Indiana Supreme Court, United States Courts of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Fifth and Seventh Circuits, and United States District Courts for Northern and Southern Indiana.
Mr. Tabler graduated from Princeton University in 1969 and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Yale University in 1972. Prior to attending Princeton, he served in the United States Army as an infantry officer in Europe and Vietnam.
