Clayton joined Starnes Davis Florie as an associate in September 2007. He is a member of the firm's recruiting committee. Practice Clayton's practice is devoted to civil litigation with a focus on professional liability and business litigation. Highlights * Obtained dismissal on behalf of a major university in a case involving the alleged conversion of the rights and royalties to medical compounds used in the treatment of Hepatitis C. * Successfully removed bad faith and fraud claims against life insurance companies to federal court invoking diversity jurisdiction. * Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a pharmaceutical company in action arising out of child's injury that allegedly occurred after child took prescription drug manufactured by said company. * Obtained a jury verdict in favor of a defendant colon and rectal surgeon in a seven-day trial involving the alleged improper cessation of steroid therapy. * Obtained a judgment as a matter of law in favor of a defendant critical care specialist arising out of the death of a 53 year old female who died in the Intensive Care Unit after being involved in a motor vehicle accident. Honors And Awards As a student at The University of Alabama School of Law, Clayton received the Dean's Community Service Award and was elected into the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society, where he served as President. He was also a member of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board, the National Tax Moot Court Team, which placed fourth in the country, and the Public Interest Institute Student Board. Clayton also served as President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society and as an Associate Justice on the Law School's Honor Court. Clayton graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with distinction. At UNC, he was elected into Gamma Sigma Alpha National Honor Fraternity, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and was awarded the John Duke Baldridge Jr. Scholarship. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Undergraduate Honor Court. Clayton attended high school at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, FL where he served as Student Council President and President of the National Honor Society. At Bolles, Clayton also served as a member of the Honor Council and was named to the Rotary Club's All-County Academic Football Team. Community Involvement Clayton currently serves on the Birmingham Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Executive Committee and the Lakeshore Foundation Junior Board He also is an active member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, the Birmingham Tip Off Club, and The Cathedral Church of the Advent, where he serves as an usher. Clayton is a 2010 graduate of the Birmingham Bar Association Future Leaders Forum and served as Co-Chairman of the Birmingham Chapter of the University of North Carolina Alumni Association from 2008 to 2011.
