Jeffrey Freedlander is counsel in our Litigation Group in Toronto. He has a general litigation practice with a particular focus on handling matters on behalf of physicians.
Prior to joining McCarthy Tétrault, Mr. Freedlander acted as counsel to a major property and casualty insurer in the defence of a variety of claims including personal injury matters, general liability claims and professional negligence actions on behalf of pharmacists and home care nurses. Following his call to the bar, he practiced at a Toronto firm specializing in insurance law, where he acted as managing partner from 1989 to 2000. Mr. Freedlander's practice emphasized personal injury cases and professional negligence defence on behalf of lawyers.
He is a member of the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the Metropolitan Toronto Lawyers Association, the Medico-Legal Society, the Advocates' Society, the Canadian Defence Lawyers Association, and the Defence Research Institute. Mr. Freedlander has given numerous presentations to industry groups concerning developments in insurance law, coverage issues, duty to defend and policy interpretation. During his career, he has conducted numerous trials and appeals at every level of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
Mr. Freedlander received his B.Sc. (Pharmacy) from the University of Toronto in 1973. He received his LLB from the University of Windsor in 1976 and was called to the Ontario bar in 1978.
