Bill practices in the firm's commercial litigation section where he focuses on construction, economic development, and torts. He is an A-V rated lawyer and he has also been selected for membership by both Best Lawyers in America and the Alabama Super Lawyers publication.
Bill graduated from Birmingham-Southern College and then served as an Infantry Officer in the US Army involving a number of challenging assignments. His military schooling includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, as well as Airborne and Ranger School. Bill was honorably discharged from active duty after five years, however he continues to serve in the US Army Reserve. Following his active duty discharge, Bill enrolled in the Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama graduating in 1993. While pursuing his Juris Doctorate degree at Cumberland, he served as the director of several important law school organizations and received numerous honors.
Bill is a member in the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) and is active in the Defense Research Institute serving as its Chair of the Construction Law Committee for 3 years. He served as Program Chair for the DRI Construction Law Seminar for several years and is a frequent speaker at construction law seminars on the local, state and national level. He has authored numerous articles on various topics including risk shifting, risk avoidance, and other related areas of interest to contractors, design professionals and owners. Bill has served as lead counsel in a number of high-exposure and high profile cases. He is currently completing a three year assignment as the lead construction claim and contract enforcement attorney on a $5 billion industrial facility under construction in south Alabama. This is reported to be the largest privately funded industrial project in US history.
