Kelly Ann Clarke received an Emmy for the documentary film "They Had a Dream, Too: Young Leaders of the Civil Rights Movement." She's met Supreme Court Justices O'Connor, Breyer, Thomas and Scalia. She also had the chance to share a hot tub with Russell Simmons at The Peabody Hotel, and she's been a guest at NFL Football Player Warren Moon's home. And that's just a small part of Kelly-Ann Clarke's charmed life. Is it any wonder her favorite movie is "The Wizard of Oz"?
Ms. Clarke dismissed the career notions of ballerina, detective, and intergalactic lawyer when, in fifth grade, she became hooked on television's "L.A. Law" and knew she wanted to be in a courtroom. Years later, mock trial success in law school directed her to the litigation practice she now enjoys. She's an associate at the Galveston, Texas, firm of Greer, Herz & Adams, L.L.P., rewarded by helping people through her insurance defense work. And because her parents instilled a strong work ethic and can-do attitude, Ms. Clarke also has a second full-time job as Chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association. She deftly handles her professional responsibilities because, as she explains, "the blessing and the curse of commitment and sense of duty is that it's just what you do." And when you do, as Ms. Clarke has, the dreams really do come true.
