Carey y Cía. is Chile's largest law firm. We employ around 120 lawyers and law graduates, one third of which are women.
The firm was established in its present form in 1976. Its origins, however, can be traced to the year 1905 when Francisco Carey (1873-1946) started practicing law independently. Under the leadership of his son, Guillermo Carey (1912-1999), the firm became a leading player in the Chilean corporate legal market.
As a full service law firm, Carey y Cía. provides a complete range of financial and business legal services to many of the world's most prestigious companies, as well as to international organizations, local public and private enterprises and institutions, and to individuals. Many of them have been clients for decades, benefiting from Carey y Cía.'s broad legal experience, timely service, and coordination between its different practice areas.
Our lawyers are graduates from Chile's most prestigious law schools and several partners and associates have postgraduate degrees from non-Chilean universities, including Berkeley, Cambridge, Chicago, Columbia, Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Michigan, NYU and Yale. Many have also spent a period of time as foreign associates in leading international law firms in New York, Sidney, London and other major European cities.
Almost all of our lawyers have spent their entire professional career at the firm, which has allowed them to achieve high degrees of specialization.
However, we have made a few significant lateral hiring's, which include three former general counsels from the branches of three international banks and tax lawyers from international auditing firms.
