Biography

Dr. Carol Johns focuses her practice on advising clients and prosecuting patents in the biological and pharmacological fields, including personalized medicine, stem cells, targeted therapeutics and diagnostics, and devices. In addition, Dr. Johns assists clients with freedom to operate analyses, validity/infringement opinions, due diligence reviews and patent portfolio management. Previously, she worked as an independent intellectual property contractor in Europe. Dr. Johns was also a patent agent and scientific advisor at Genset Corporation. There, she prosecuted patents and trademarks, performed patentability, freedom to operate, and strategy analyses and prepared intellectual property strategy briefs for the company and its licensing partners.

Dr. Johns conducted independent research on signaling pathways involved in B and T cell development as a doctoral student at the University of California, San Diego. She was also a laboratory assistant at the California Institute of Technology Chemistry Department where she researched transcription factors in stress-related signaling pathways.
