Carrie leads the firm's Real Estate, Development & Construction industry team. She is a member of the Urban Land Institute and Commercial Real Estate Women and frequently speaks on topics relevant to the real estate, development and construction industries.

Carrie has been lead litigation counsel in real estate, development and construction-related disputes, including claims involving construction projects, real estate sale contracts, commercial leases, broker agreements, easements and restrictive covenants; foreclosures (nonjudicial and judicial) and post-foreclosure other real-estate owned (OREO) title-related and land use-related claims; real estate tax sales and appeals; valuation litigation in the eminent domain context involving commercial and residential properties; development-related disputes involving land acquisition, rezoning, conditional-use permits, and mechanics' liens; receiverships relating to restaurants and apartment complexes; and constitutional challenges to economic incentive financing and governmental actions.

Among Carrie's noteworthy legal work are these cases:
•Won Missouri Supreme Court decision affirming state law that barred eminent domain condemnations “for solely economic development purposes.”
•Enforcement of loan covenants resulting in the judicial appointment of a receiver for more than 20 restaurants.
•Despite landlord opposition, spearheaded lease dispute litigation to force terminations of multiple commercial locations and renewal of lease term.
•Litigated to allow a 125-plus-acre single-family home subdivision development to proceed despite strong municipal opposition.

A lead counsel in dozens of commercial lending litigation and arbitration matters, Carrie represents lenders in the enforcement of loan and security agreements, notes, guaranties, deeds of trust and related documents. Frequently these representations involve defending lender liability claims and business-related torts (i.e., fraud, gross negligence and tortious interference claims) to favorable conclusions.

Carrie consults with clients in the pursuit of title insurance claims, governmental takings, real estate valuation issues, women-owned (WBE) or minority-owned (MBE) certifications, as well as adverse possession, quiet title actions, boundary and restrictive covenant disputes and environmental and insolvency-related issues.

A member of the Partner Board, Carrie serves on the firm's Diversity Council.
