Cassandra is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Delaware and The Penn State Dickinson School of Law. Following a clerkship with the Superior Court of the State of Delaware where her focus was assisting with the resolution of workers compensation appeals, she entered private practice with a determination to cultivate an expertise in the area of workers compensation law and limit her practice accordingly. Cassandra joined Young Conaway in 1989 to head its Workers Compensation Section. Appearing regularly before the Industrial Accident Board on behalf of both injured workers and employers and insurance carriers, her clients include Travelers Insurance, The News Journal, Boscov's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Quest Diagnostics and several local municipalities. Her cases have been featured in The News Journal and Delaware Today magazine.
For the last 12 years, Cassandra has been the Editor of The Delaware Workers Compensation CaseLaw Update, her own publication highlighting recent decisions of precedence from the Industrial Accident Board and what is considered the only reporter service for Delaware IAB rulings. She was named a "Top Lawyer" in Workers Compensation by Delaware Today magazine in its 2001, 2008 and 2010 survey and has the distinction of being the only practitioner ever cited as outstanding for both claimant and defense practice. In 2007 she was selected as a "Top Lawyer" in Corporate Counsel for its Annual Guide to Health Care, Workers' Compensation and Employee Benefits Law. An annual faculty member, speaker and author for Sterling Education's Advanced Workers' Compensation Seminar, Cassandra also participates as faculty for annual seminars sponsored by Coventry Managed Care, PRO Physical Therapy, and The Delaware State Bar Association's Annual Workers Compensation Seminar, among others.
In 2009, Cassandra was selected to join the Larson's' National Workers Compensation Advisory Board as its Delaware expert. She is now the author of a national blog on Delaware workers' compensation law, Delaware Detour and Frolic, which in 2009 and 2010 won national recognition as one of the 25 best legal blogs on this subject. The blog reports almost weekly on developments in the area of Utilization Review and the Health Care Practice Guidelines as released by the IAB in the wake of the 2007 and 2008 amendments to the medical statute, 19 Del. Code Section 2322.
