Chris Evans joined Adams and Reese in 2000 and is an experienced litigator in the areas of commercial litigation, oilfield contracts and litigation, indemnity, personal injury defense, property insurance and maritime law. In Houston his leadership and experience have expanded the firm's representation in oilfield-related litigation and maritime matters.
During his more than 26 years practicing law, Chris has also distinguished himself as a personal injury trial lawyer. He is board certified in Personal Injury Trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. His special areas of focus for personal injury defense are oilfield casualties and defense of maritime personal injury cases.
Other significant contributions include:
· Lead counsel and winning attorney in Ken Petroleum v. Questor Drilling, 24 S.W.3d 344 (Tex. 2000) ( a case decided by the Texas Supreme Court regarding the interpretation of the Texas Oilfield Anti-Indemnity Act and its application to an IADC drilling contract).
· Presentations on indemnity issues to the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC).
· Appellate advocacy and arguments before various appellate courts in Texas, the Texas Supreme Court and the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
· Major casualty litigation including cases involving products liability, maritime law, the Jones Act and the Texas Wrongful Death Statute.
· Pro bono work including a child custody and support case that resulted in naming a maternal grandmother as managing custodian and directing support payments to her for her granddaughter's care.
Chris is a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel and the Maritime Lawyers Association.
Chris is looking forward to the next stage of his life with his wife of 28 years and keeping track of their two children, one in college and the eldest in medical school. He is actively involved in his church and has a passion for world history.
