Biography

Chris Curran devotes his practice to working with employers on a broad range of labor and employment matters.

He has defended numerous employers, organizations, insurance carriers, and third party administrators in workers' compensation matters. Chris has also represented health care clients during labor organizing activity, as well as during contract negotiations and collective bargaining. Chris has prepared employee handbooks for a construction industry client. Chris has also been intimately involved in the investigation of and defense against grievances filed against health care industry clients, and assisted in the arbitrations arising from those grievances. Chris has extensive experience in Florida state courts in jurisdictions from Miami-Dade to Escambia counties.

Prior to joining FordHarrison, Chris served as an associate in the Miami office of a large, international general services law firm where he focused his practice on the representation of employers in workers' compensation matters.

Prior to law school, Chris worked in the front office of the San Diego Chargers, assisting the vice president in contract negotiations and salary cap matters. During law school, Chris worked in the front office of the Cleveland Browns, assisting the vice president/general counsel with general litigation, contract negotiations, and workers' compensation matters.

Recent Experience

•Represented a large telecommunications employer in Florida, the State of Florida, several professional sports franchises, an international football organization, state-wide insurance carriers, and interstate third party administrators, in several workers' compensation matters involving issues of compensability, coverage, medical causation/necessity, disability/indemnity, and exposure to claimant attorney fees/costs. This representation included all stages of litigation including representation before the Judges of Compensation Claims at Final Hearing.
•Litigated several appeals before the First District Court of Appeals.
•Performed as lead negotiator in several mediation conferences, both state-mandated and privately organized.
•Assisted in the negotiation of coordinated collective bargaining agreements for 19 Florida hospitals.
•Handled investigation of and defense against grievances filed against healthcare industry clients, and assisted in arbitrations arising from grievances.
•Counseled clients in health care industry regarding union representation and union decertification elections, and monitored pre/post-election conduct of unions to ensure compliance with all legal requirements.
•Investigated EEOC charges of racial discrimination and harassment at Florida hospitals and Florida utilities companies, responded to and defended against charges, and provided counseling to management regarding recommended corrective actions.
•Investigated alleged employer non-compliance with OSHA regulations and provided recommendations to employer for resolution of issues.
•Assisted in the training of human resources departments/management in health care industry regarding rights and responsibilities under collective bargaining agreement.
