Chris has a commercial law and administrative law practice that focuses on serving the needs of clients in the communications and energy industries. He appears before the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission, the British Columbia Utilities Commission and other regulatory boards and provides advice in the area of municipal law and has acted for local government bodies.
Chris also assists clients with their commercial law needs and was recognized by Chambers Global publication "The Worlds Leading Lawyers for Business" in 2006.
Chris has practiced at Owen Bird since 1988 and is currently serving as co-Managing Director of Owen Bird Law Corporation (since 2006).
He has lectured on broadcasting and telecommunications law at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia faculty of law where he has served as an adjunct professor.
In 1992, and again in 2003, Chris was awarded the "Friend of the Industry Award" by the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters for his service as legal counsel to that organization. Chris has served as Chair of the Canadian Bar Association National Media and Communications Law Subsection.
Outside of his professional life, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and is an active volunteer in the community, having served on a number of local boards including:
· the North Vancouver Recreation Commission;
· the District of North Vancouver Advisory Committee on Community Services;
· the North Vancouver City Social Policy Advisory Committee; and
· the Jack Webster Foundation (co-chair).
In his spare time, he enjoys coaching youth soccer, boarding (snow and wake) and mountain biking.
