Charles Roemer is in the South Bend, Indiana office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP and now serves of counsel (retired). He received his law degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1958 and is a lifelong resident of the community.
Mr. Roemer concentrates his practice in the area of estate planning, working with families to develop and implement family wealth transfer plans to minimize the impact of federal and state transfer/estate taxes. These plans often combine charitable giving and other strategies to help families meet their financial and personal goals.
He has been recognized for professional excellence in the area of trusts and estates in the 2004 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. In 1991, Mr. Roemer was elected as a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, which includes attorneys who have demonstrated exceptional skill in estate planning as determined by the college.
Passionate about his involvement in community affairs, Mr. Roemer has served as board chairman for several local organizations, including the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County (which he co-founded) and the Chamber of Commerce of St. Joseph County. He sits as a permanent board member of both organizations. Mr. Roemer also co-founded the highly successful Leadership Program of South Bend/Mishawaka, which identifies and develops future leaders of the community. The Chamber of Commerce recognized Mr. Roemer's efforts with the 1999 Distinguished Business Leader Award.
