Clark, Thomas & Winters is an outgrowth of the partnership of Looney & Clark which began a general practice of law in Austin in 1938. Everett L. Looney, senior partner and president of the State Bar of Texas, remained active until illness forced his retirement in 1958. Edward Clark, more recently U.S. Ambassador to Australia and U.S. Commissioner of Hemis Fair, continued to practice until his death in 1992.
The firm practices in substantially every area of civil law not only in Texas but on a nationwide basis. Its clients include individuals, partnerships, publicly-held and closely-held corporations, public utilities, financial institutions, insurance companies, governmental agencies, municipalities, trade associations, charitable foundations, and school districts. Although the firm is not formally organized into sections, each of its attorneys specializes in one or more areas of practice.
