Colin is a partner in our Business Law Group. He practises in the areas of corporate finance and technology law with an emphasis on emerging growth companies, many of which are focused on clean technologies and renewable energy. Colin has developed an expertise in carbon finance. In this role, Colin focuses on emissions trading, and works with carbon offset originators and aggregators, clean-technology companies and funds. In addition, Colin's practice involves private equity, venture financings, and mergers and acquisitions involving both public and private companies.
Colin provides legal advice on a wide range of private equity and venture capital financings, and has had the opportunity to work with investment funds, private investors and emerging growth companies.
A few examples of Colin's work in these areas include representing:
· A leading electricity company in the negotiation of a power purchase agreement for renewable energy
· A leading-edge clean technology fund in the formation of the fund and the structuring of its initial investments in three start-up clean technology companies
· A TSXV company in the acquisition of a solar power company based in Germany
· A venture capital fund focusing on early-stage technology companies in the formation of its new fund and the negotiation of its investments in underlying investee companies
· A Canadian developer of governance, risk, and compliance process planning and execution software for financial services organizations in angel round, Series A round and subsequent follow-on equity and debt financings and in various licensing negotiations
· A Canadian energy company in structuring its carbon offset marketing and sales strategy
Colin has a Certificate in Carbon Finance from the University of Toronto's Centre for Environment.
