Daniel C. Leonardi concentrates his practice in the areas of intellectual property and commercial litigation and also has experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications. Dan earned his J.D. at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where he served as Executive Editor of the Journal of College and University Law.
Practice and Firm Involvement
In the intellectual property field, Dan has represented a variety of clients ranging from large corporations to individual inventors in matters ranging from patent infringement actions in federal court to trademark oppositions before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. In the commercial litigation arena, Dan has extensive experience in product liability actions, including medical device and pharmaceutical cases, as well as complex class actions. Dan also serves on the firm's recruiting and retention committee.
Prior Legal Experience
Before coming to Nexsen Pruet, Dan served two years as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Joseph F. Anderson, Jr., Chief United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina. He also served as an Adjunct Professor of legal writing at the University of South Carolina School of Law and has prosecuted criminal domestic violence cases as a Special Assistant Attorney General.
Dan is active in the South Carolina Bar and is a member of the Professional Responsibility Committee and the Professional Liability Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors of The Navigator Corporation, and on the Board of Directors of Birthright of Columbia.
Dan was named to Columbia Business Monthly's List of Legal Elite for 2013. This list appears in the October edition of the magazine.
Outside Nexsen Pruet
Dan has served as the Treasurer of the University Hill Neighborhood Association and as a member of the Shandon Neighborhood Council, including serving as the Race Director for the Shandon Turkey Trot. Dan, his wife, and three children attend St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Dan and his wife enjoy traveling, especially to the Piedmont region of northern Italy.
