| Biography | Dan Bushell is an experienced appeals attorney who represents businesses and individuals with complex and difficult appellate issues. He obtained his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D., 2002) and his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan (B.A. in Economics, 1996), winning numerous academic awards along the way.
Since launching Bushell Appellate Law, P.A. in early 2011, Mr. Bushell and his firm have come to be regarded as a resource for clients and other lawyers who need help getting out of precarious legal predicaments. More often than not, the firm is called on to represent clients that have lost at the trial court level, and desperately need a reversal. The issues Mr. Bushell is brought in to tackle are usually complex, the stakes are usually high, and the odds are often long. He has been recognized by his peers as a Florida Super Lawyer in Appellate Practice.
His cases involve commercial/business litigation, personal/bodily injuries, medical malpractice, probate and guardianship disputes, real estate and lending transactions, mortgage foreclosures, family law disputes, employee benefits litigation, class actions, and many other areas of substantive law, both federal and state. Although Mr. Bushell spends the majority of his time helping clients get a second chance on appeal, he is also experienced in helping clients prevent reversals when they were successful at the trial court level.
Prior to founding his own firm, Mr. Bushell practiced with premiere complex litigation firms based in Pennsylvania and Florida, with practices that extended nation-wide. He forged his skills litigating highly complex cases against some of the world’s largest law firms, with millions and sometimes hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. From early on in his career, Mr. Bushell has been responsible for briefing and arguing some of the most difficult, complicated and cutting-edge issues. He soon developed his niche as a go-to lawyer for appellate and complex briefing work. His own firms, other attorneys, and their clients quickly came to rely on Mr. Bushell to handle their most challenging and important cases.
Mr. Bushell’s work has resulted in numerous precedent-setting decisions—from the Florida District Courts of Appeal, the Florida Supreme Court, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and many other courts throughout the country. His articles have been published in various legal journals, and he presents at continuing legal education programs.
Mr. Bushell is also the author and publisher of the Florida Appellate Review blog. Cognizant that the law is ever-evolving, Mr. Bushell keeps a close eye on Florida appellate courts’ newly released opinions. In his posts, Dan offers insight and analysis on important new appellate decisions, trends, and implications for litigants, the courts, and society.
A native of New Jersey, Mr. Bushell lived and practiced law in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania prior to relocating to South Florida in 2007. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, playing golf and other sports, and rooting for Michigan, the Steelers and the Penguins.
