Daniel H. FitzGibbon, now of counsel in the Indianapolis, Indiana office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP, served from 1983 to 1995 as a member of the firm's Management Committee. He practices primarily in the Corporate Department, concentrating on business and tax planning, corporate mergers, acquisitions and other transactions, and federal income tax controversies. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Tax.
Outside the firm, Mr. FitzGibbon is very active in international rule of law issues, devoting a year in Russia to commercial law reform. He has also completed many shorter term projects throughout Eastern Europe and parts of North Africa and the Middle East, focusing primarily on commercial law, legal profession and judiciary development.
Mr. FitzGibbon is a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana State, and American Bar Associations, having served as chairman of the Taxation Section of the Indianapolis Bar Association and as a member of various committees and sections of the American Bar Association. He is a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel and a member of the American Law Institute. Among other community activities, he is a former member and president of the Board of Education of the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township.
Mr. FitzGibbon graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a B.S. in 1964. He then served five years as an infantry officer, primarily in Berlin, Germany and Vietnam, rising to the rank of captain.
Mr. FitzGibbon received his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1972. He is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana, the Southern District of Indiana, and the United States Tax Court.
