Biography

When you, your family member or your company becomes the subject of scrutiny by law enforcement or regulatory authorities, you need an lawyer to stand with you. You need a lawyer who not only knows the laws and the procedures, but a lawyer who knows how to expedite the often painstakingly slow legal process and get things done. You want a lawyer who will sympathize with your anxiety, can answer your questions, and help you formulate the best strategy for your case-a lawyer who at once knows who to call and what to say. You need a lawyer who is a straight shooter who will give you candid advice in private-even if it isn't exactly what you want to hear-and who also knows how to fight in the courtroom when you choose to fight. You need Darren Gelber.

Darren is chair of the firm's Criminal team and heads up its Cyber State Legal Resource Group. His criminal practice involves defending individuals and companies and extends to healthcare related litigation, administrative litigation and professional licensing matters. Mr. Gelber contributes to the team's blog, Jersey Justice Monitor, providing insight on current criminal practice issues with a particular focus on New Jersey. In addition to contributing to the blog, he writes and lectures extensively on criminal and cyber-related issues. When television or print media representatives need to speak to someone who knows New Jersey criminal practice, Darren is on their speed dial list.

Well known and regarded among his colleagues in the criminal defense bar, Darren is Past-President of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey, and has consistently been selected for inclusion in both the New Jersey Super Lawyers and New Jersey Best Lawyers lists. Darren is certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney. Only those attorneys that are able to demonstrate sufficient levels of experience, education, knowledge and skill in a specific area of law or practice; have passed a rigorous examination; and have been recognized by their peers as having sufficient skills and reputation in the designated specialty can be designated by the New Jersey Supreme Court as certified attorneys.

Darren's clients have sought his counsel in all phases of criminal proceedings, including those charged with serious offenses in state and federal courts, those under investigation by law enforcement authorities or subpoenaed to appear before a state or federal grand jury and clients seeking to appeal an adverse decision. He also represents professional clients in matters before licensing boards. As a former Assistant Bronx District Attorney, Darren has also been called upon by many New Jersey clients who have had encounters with the New York criminal justice system.
