Darryl Cruz is a partner at McCarthy Tétrault LLP in the Litigation Group Toronto office. From 2007-2011, Mr. Cruz served as Litigation Practice Group Leader and worked with the firm's litigation, bankruptcy and restructuring, intellectual property, environmental, international trade and research lawyers in all of its offices across Canada. Mr. Cruz also maintains a general litigation practice with particular emphasis on commercial and professional liability issues. He has acted as trial and appellate counsel for clients such as Pepsi-Cola Canada Ltd., Xerox Canada Ltd., American Airlines Inc., Ellis Vision Incorporated, the Special Deputy Receiver for the State of Illinois and Connor Clark Ltd. He has tried jury and non-jury cases. His trials have concerned all areas of law, including contract law, insurance, tax, intellectual property, defamation, professional negligence and employment. He has regularly appeared as counsel on injunction applications and on other applications for interim relief. Mr. Cruz also acts as counsel on class actions or other mass tort proceedings. In the professional liability context, Mr. Cruz has acted as lead counsel for doctors and lawyers in a wide variety of negligence cases and discipline cases. Mr. Cruz has appeared as counsel at all levels in the Ontario courts and in the Supreme Court of Canada. He has appeared as counsel before various administrative boards and tribunals such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board. Mr. Cruz is listed in the 2006-2011 editions of The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, a guide to the leading law firms and practitioners in Canada, as a leading lawyer in the area of medical negligence. Mr. Cruz is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Advocates' Society and the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto. He received his LLB from the University of Toronto and was called to the Ontario bar in 1992. |
